“They deserve to be discovered” says Stephan matthews

Let’s face it, it’s not easy being heard in a fragrant yet noisy world of perfumes, and as a tiny, niche, natural perfume the challenge is real, so when someone who really knows about their scent writes about us, we get very excited indeed!

Stephan Matthews is someone who knows and loves fragrance. A wordsmith and perfume connoisseur, his way of describing scent is impressive. It’s worth following his Instagram feed to learn about the world of fragrance as well as the world of beauty and nature, as he’s clearly a fan of the natural world, just like us.

His use of words to describe our natural eau de parfum was just right;

“The fragrance opens with an incredible citrus burst that offers an invigorating rather than a mouth-watering effect. The blend of bergamot and grapefruit add the zesty quality that you’d expect, but the clever use of the green-tinged lemon myrtle and a bittersweet petitgrain provide an exciting edginess. The heart of the scent reveals a fascinatingly aromatic floral duality with rose and the honey-touched linden flower bouncing perfectly off a ginger and coriander pairing, but the addition of geranium adds a wonderfully androgynous quality. The final development of no.1 sees elegant cedarwood and a peppery resinous labdanum come into play but, unlike many other natural fragrances, they are used with both a delicate and expert hand.”

If you’re a fan of Jones & Modha no.1, you’ll no doubt recognise the careful layering of citrus brightness, floral hint and warm wood. It really does make you feel good!
