What is a sustainable perfume?

When we started thinking about creating a perfume, we were keen to make it as sustainable as possible. We wanted our environmental footprint to be as minimal as we could and spent a long time talking to people, searching for like minded people we could work with to create something stunning and environmentally conscious. With Jones & Modha no.1, we have done just that.

Sustainable Beauty in general

When it comes to sustainable beauty, being thoughtful about what we buy is important. Finishing one beauty item before buying another is a good idea (although there are so many temptations out there!) - after all, how many of us have rows of half used shampoos or shower gels that perhaps never get finished and are eventually thrown?

Sustainable fragrance

With fragrance, sustainability is important to us, from sourcing ingredients that have minimal negative impact on the environment (as well as on our skin) to minimising packaging and keeping it all as simple as possible. Something that is very challenging to do in a world where sophistication is rated by how fancy the bottle / plastic sculpted lid and packaging in general is. Again it’s back to the idea of being thoughtful - really considering whether that cellophane wrap is really needed and sourcing French made, simple glass bottles.

Finding ethical companies

We were so delighted when we finally came across our perfumer, who is working towards carbon neutrality. They were dedicated to only using plant and flower essences from sustainable sources and produce perfumes in small batches, keeping their environmental impact as low as possible. This meant that Jones & Modha no.1 could be made using consciously sourced natural ingredients, locally in Somerset, and blended by a true expert perfumer who we were aligned with when it came to ethics and sustainability.

Sustainable beauty is growing

The interest in sustainability is growing, with so many of us now making an effort to re-use and recycle as much as possible and the beauty world is definitely listening, with even the big brands making some effort to reduce their impact. This really is something to be celebrated.

Our customers are aligned with out ethos

Our customers tell us that they love the idea of spraying a natural perfume on their skin - one that has the uplifting and mood enhancing benefits of essential oils and that is aligned to their desire to tread more lightly on our planet really makes the whole perfume experience even more pleasing. And how absolutely lovely is that?
